Director

Cath Bowtell is a current Director of the IFS Board, having previously served as Chair from July 2022 to December 2023. Prior to her board appointment, Cath was Chief Executive Officer of IFS from December 2015 to June 2022. Her career spans senior leadership roles across the superannuation sector and the union movement.

From 2010 to 2013, Cath was Chief Executive of the Australian Government Employees Superannuation Trust (AGEST Super), leading the fund through its merger with AustralianSuper. Her earlier roles include Senior Industrial Officer at the ACTU and Assistant State Secretary of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU).

Cath has held numerous board and committee positions. She joined as a Director of IFM Investors since 2019 and was appointed Chair on 1 July 2023. In December 2024, she became Chair of ISPT Pty Ltd. She also holds director and chair roles at Industry Super Holdings (ISH) and the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation. In March 2024, she was appointed Chair of the Jobs and Skills Australia Ministerial Advisory Board.

Her previous governance experience includes directorships with AGEST Super, AustralianSuper, Industry Super Australia, Ausgrid, Royal Women’s Hospital (as both Chair and Director) and The New Daily (as both Chair and Director). She has also served on the Victorian Public Sector Commission Advisory Board and the Industry Super Network Advisory Committee.

Cath has been a member of the IFS Group Remuneration Committee since August 2022 and served on the Audit Risk and Compliance Committee from August 2022 to March 2025.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws.
